Enquiry on results

If you believe a band is wrong, you can ask for the marking to be checked. Here is what that involves and what it can and cannot change.

What can be re-examined

Writing and Speaking are marked by a person, so a second examiner can reasonably reach a different band. Those sections can be re-marked on request.

Reading and Listening are marked against a fixed answer key. A re-mark of those sections checks that your recorded answers were compared correctly to the key — it cannot change whether an answer was right.

How to request one

  • Write to candidates@celptest.org within 21 days of your result being published.
  • Quote your attempt reference and the email address you registered with.
  • Say which section or sections you want re-examined, and why.

What happens

A senior examiner who has not seen your work marks it again from the descriptors, without being told your original band. Their band stands, whether it is higher, lower or the same.

A re-mark can lower a band. This happens rarely, but you should understand it before requesting one.

Timing and outcome

Enquiries are normally completed within ten working days. If a band changes, a corrected Test Report Form is issued and the previous one is withdrawn from verification.

If your band changes as a result of the enquiry, no fee applies. Where a fee has been charged and the enquiry is upheld, it is refunded in full.
